The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 221

That night, fireworks lit up the sky all over the city for Christmas Eve.

Victoria stood on her balcony, holding Dawn and watching the brilliant colors explode in the night sky.

Dawn, being a timid cat, was startled by the booms and burrowed into Victoria’s arms. But her curiosity was too strong, and she would periodically peek her head out to watch.

Down below.

Standing by his car in the darkness, Elias Shawn looked up toward Victoria’s floor.

He could just make out the silhouette of a person and a cat on the balcony.

Jonah Chase pulled his coat tighter and got out of the car, following Elias's gaze.

"Should I go up and knock?" he asked.

Elias shot him a cold glance.

Jonah immediately made a motion of zipping his lips.

Five minutes later, however, he couldn't help but speak up again. "Elias, I mean, we can watch from inside the car, you know."

"Jonah, one more word and you can disappear from my sight."

"Fine, fine, I'll shut up."

Jonah turned and got back in the car, muttering under his breath, "I must be a masochist. Of all the things to do on Christmas Eve, I had to play rock-paper-scissors with Thorne!"

And it wasn't just that he played—he lost!

And if losing wasn't bad enough, Thorne made him come here to babysit a lonely divorcé!

So here he was, standing out in the freezing wind, watching fireworks.

Elias stood outside for what felt like an eternity, Lucian Thorne's question from the previous night replaying in his mind.

He had thought about it all night, and at the moment he saw Victoria's silhouette, he seemed to have found his answer.

He might not be deeply in love with Victoria, but he cared about her.

Whether that care could turn into love, Elias didn't know, nor did he want to dwell on it.

His phone buzzed.

A message popped up, and a photo appeared next to the cartoon cat avatar.

He opened it.

It was a picture of the night sky above them, a firework bursting in a spectacular display.

A barely perceptible smile touched Elias's lips.

E: [Very beautiful.]

Victoria: [You could see it too if you stepped out onto your balcony.]

E: [Working late at the office.]

Victoria: [You don't even get Christmas Eve off?]
