Sunny swallowed hard and asked again, "Victoria, how much did you say these heels were?"
Victoria mimicked Mr. Laurent, holding up two fingers. "...Two hundred thousand."
At her words, Sunny immediately snatched her bank card back into her purse and then took a step back, putting a good three feet of distance between herself and the heels on the display stand.
Seeing this, Victoria didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
"Sunny, what are you doing?"
Sunny pulled Victoria aside, staring at the heels as if they weren't shoes but a glittering pile of two hundred thousand dollars in cash.
She said nervously, "Victoria, let's stay back. We don't want to accidentally knock them over. I couldn't afford to replace them if I sold everything I own."
"Pfft!"
Victoria couldn't help but burst out laughing and turned to leave.
"Hey, Victoria, where are you going?"
Sunny failed to hold her back and saw Victoria walking away, so she quickly chased after her. The two of them entered the workshop in the back, one after the other.
She wouldn't have known if she hadn't gone in, but the space was at least twice as large as the storefront outside. As far as the eye could see, the walls were covered with all sorts of design sketches and shoemaking tools.
In the center of the room was a dark wood table large enough for two people to lie on. The tabletop was similarly cluttered with different shoe design drafts and shoe lasts of various sizes.
Light as bright as day fell on Mr. Laurent. He had put on a pair of reading glasses and was bent over, carefully tapping at the leather tacked to a shoe last with a small, palm-sized hammer.
Hearing the noise, Mr. Laurent stopped what he was doing. "So, Miss Sanger, have you decided on the style?"
Victoria nodded and handed him a piece of paper with the customization details she had already written down. "Mr. Laurent, about how long will it take to get the finished product?"
Mr. Laurent unfolded it and took a look, his brow twitching slightly.
The details and the shoe size...
They were a near-perfect match for Mr. Shawn's.
He glanced at Victoria, thought for a moment, and said conservatively, "We have the original design for that style, so the turnaround will be quicker. About seven days."
"Okay."
"Will you be paying a deposit or the full amount?" Mr. Laurent asked, taking off his reading glasses.
Victoria turned to look at Sunny, who was circling the table, studying the shoe lasts. Instead of answering Mr. Laurent, she walked over to get Sunny out of the way.
"Sunny, I'm kind of craving some coffee. Could you go get me a cup?"
Hearing this, Sunny was puzzled. "Is there a coffee shop around here?"
"There is. Turn left when you go out and walk about two hundred meters."
Sunny blinked but agreed without much hesitation and left the shoe shop.
Once Sunny's figure disappeared from the storefront, Victoria took out her bank card and handed it to Mr. Laurent with a faint smile.
"I'll pay in full."
"Also, Mr. Laurent, could you please wrap up those heels from before?"
