On the hospital bed, the man's eyes were tightly shut. If not for the oxygen tube under his nose, he looked so peaceful he could have just been asleep.

Leilani got off work and picked up dinner from the hospital cafeteria before pushing open the door to the room.

She saw Abbey sitting on the wooden stool by the bed, her hand tightly clutching Grady's, not saying a word.

"Miss Prescott." Leilani stood by the door for a moment before walking over and setting down a warm food container. "I got some food from the cafeteria. You should eat something."

Abbey looked up at the sound of her voice, saw Leilani, and paused, her eyes instinctively glancing toward the door.

"Maria said my dad prescribed some more medicine for you. She went back home to prepare it and will bring it over tomorrow morning," Leilani explained, seeing her confusion.

Abbey had been crying all afternoon, and the corners of her eyes were still red.

"Thank you," she managed, forcing a smile.

Leilani put her hands in her uniform pockets and glanced at the man on the bed. "So his name is Grady. That's a nice name."

Abbey flinched slightly, her gaze falling.

Leilani sensed her low spirits. She opened her mouth to offer some comfort, but then she remembered the severity of Grady's condition and swallowed her words. Instead, she took the phone out of her pocket and handed it to her.

"Miss Prescott, here."
