The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 266

The night grew darker, and a light snow continued to fall.

"Genevieve, everyone is looking for me right now. I'm stuck here, I can't go anywhere. The little bit of money you gave me isn't nearly enough. When is the rest coming through?"

Genevieve leaned against the balcony railing, her gaze fixed on the glass of red wine in her hand as she listened to the impatient questions coming from her phone.

Her red lips curved into a slight smile. "Rose, what's the rush? You said it yourself, so many people are watching you right now. If I transfer such a large sum to your account, it's bound to attract attention. You don't want to be found, do you?"

Rose gritted her teeth, remembering the humiliation of almost being thrown out by her landlord today.

Over a week ago, after she recorded the video exposing Victoria, Genevieve had someone send her to this small island. She thought a life of luxury and freedom awaited her, but instead, Genevieve just tossed her five thousand dollars, saying the rest of the hundreds of thousands would be transferred after the video was released.

She believed her.

She rented a room at a local inn and released the video as Genevieve instructed. But eight days had passed in the blink of an eye. Her rental period was up, and the money Genevieve had promised still hadn't arrived.

The landlord was a gruff man. When he saw that she was staying without paying for the next period, he was ready to throw her out into the night.

She was in an unfamiliar place and terrified. She had no choice but to scrape together what little cash she had left and beg the landlord for one more night.

"I don't care. Tomorrow at the latest! If I don't see the money by tomorrow, I'll… I'll go back and expose everything you made me do! I have recordings of all our calls, Genevieve. If my life is miserable, I'll make sure yours is too!"

With nothing left to lose, Rose laid down her threat.

Genevieve’s eyes narrowed, and she tightened her grip on the phone. "Fine," she agreed. "I'll get you the money tomorrow."

Hearing this, Rose assumed Genevieve was scared and snorted, "Remember, tomorrow at the latest!"

With that, she hung up.

Genevieve hadn't actually expected that stupid woman to have an ace up her sleeve, to have saved recordings of their calls.

Staring at the ended call screen, her eyes turned sinister, a vicious glint flashing within them.

Suddenly, someone stepped out onto the balcony and wrapped their arms around her from behind. A large hand cupped her breast as he lowered his head to kiss the nape of her neck.

"Tsk, who pissed my woman off this much?" a man's deep voice rumbled.

Genevieve frowned and pulled his wandering hand away, turning around. "Henry, you! Didn't I tell you to find a place to hide?"

She instinctively scanned their surroundings, terrified someone might see them.

Henry lifted her chin. "Relax. No one saw me come here."

Genevieve turned her head away, scoffing. "Relax? Do you have any idea what will happen if someone finds you here? Everything we've done will fall apart!"

She grabbed Henry's arm, pulled him inside, and drew the curtains.

Henry narrowed his eyes. "Genevieve, are you afraid of someone else finding out, or are you afraid of Elias finding out, hmm?"
