With a sickening thud, Genevieve's head split open. Blood streamed down her face as her vision went black, and she collapsed, unconscious.
It all happened too fast for anyone to react. The sight of her crumpled form on the floor finally jolted them into action.
Police, nurses, and doctors swarmed around her. In the ensuing chaos, people were making calls, administering emergency aid, and cleaning up the blood.
In the end, Genevieve was rushed to the emergency room with maximum speed.

Victoria stood by the door, her mind in turmoil. Elias's words echoed in her head.
He had said that Abbey turned herself in.
He had also said that Abbey had confessed everything about what happened before and after Grady’s accident.
She tuned out the rest of the commotion, her thoughts consumed by one fact: Abbey was back. She had to go to the police station. She had to see Abbey. She had to know how Grady had really died.
With that single-minded purpose, she turned to head for the elevator.
"Victoria."
Seeing her pale face as she turned to leave without a word, Elias reached out and grabbed her wrist without thinking.
Victoria instinctively tried to pull her hand away but stopped when she heard a muffled groan of pain. Snapping back to reality, she looked at Elias and saw his brow furrowed.
Her gaze fell to the hand gripping hers.
A splash of crimson stood out starkly against the white gauze, sending a pang of pain through her own heart.

She had pulled back with considerable force, and to stop her, he would have had to grip even tighter.
His stitches must have torn open.
Victoria's brow furrowed. She opened her mouth, about to ask if he wanted to lose the hand completely, but seeing his unwavering grip, she swallowed the words. All that came out was a dry, "Let me go."
'Your brother isn't dead.'
'Grady is alive.'
Her pupils trembled. She stared at Elias in astonishment, her heart feeling like it had skipped a beat. Her vision blurred, and her voice wavered with disbelief.
"Elias, what did you say?"
Elias knew the news was a massive shock to her. He ignored the searing pain in his palm and, as long as Victoria asked, he would repeat it for her again and again.
"Grady is alive. He's at the central hospital in Brentwood right now. I've already sent people to pick him up. Based on the timing, he should be here in about half an hour."
A single tear escaped, then another. Her eyes turned red, her throat tightened, and though her lips parted, no words came out.
Seeing her like this, Elias felt a sharp pain in his chest. He remembered the image of her at Grady's funeral, clutching the urn and sobbing uncontrollably. His heart seized. He reached out, wiping away her tears. He wanted to comfort her but didn't know how, so he simply pulled her into his arms.
Victoria unconsciously gripped the fabric of his shirt, her tears falling like broken pearls. She cried for a long time…
