Unlike Building A, The Shawn Group's main headquarters, Building B featured a large, open atrium in the center, with three floors of glass-walled corridors encircling it.
Victoria stood with the file folder outside the second-floor Auditing Department, glancing at the time on her phone.
11:32 AM. She had been waiting for a full forty-five minutes, and still hadn't managed to deliver the file to the department manager.
"Is your manager's meeting still not over?" Victoria walked over to the manager's secretary's desk and asked.
"Huh? Oh, our manager finished her meeting half an hour ago and went back to her office," the secretary said. Then, feigning surprise, she blinked innocently. "Didn't I tell you?"
"I'm so sorry. I've just been so busy, I must have completely forgotten to let you know."
Even though she had anticipated the delivery wouldn't be easy, Victoria's face darkened at the secretary's obviously deliberate act. She couldn't muster a smile.
"So, your manager is in her office now, right?"
The secretary glanced at her, said nothing, and went back to admiring her nails.
Smack! Victoria slammed the file folder onto the secretary's desk.
The secretary jumped, her eyes widening. "What are you doing! You scared me!"
"So you can hear after all," Victoria said with light sarcasm.
The secretary's face flushed with anger.
"Then please be so kind as to deliver this file to your manager. Thank you." With that, Victoria turned to leave.
If she had first wondered whether this was just another of Elias’s ways to torment her, a deliberate setup, she was now almost sure that the person behind it wasn’t him, but someone else.
"Victoria, you dare walk away!"
Sure enough, just as Victoria reached the doorway, the manager's office door was flung open from the inside. Candice stormed out, shouting arrogantly.
"The file has been delivered. Why can't I leave?" Victoria turned back, her expression unreadable as she looked at Candice. She should have guessed it was her. She just hadn't known that Candice had started working at The Shawn Group, let alone landed a position as a manager in the Auditing Department.
Candice opened the folder, pulled out the drawings, and clicked across the floor in her high heels. "Victoria, what do you think will happen to your job if The Shawn Group's partnership with Aurelian Central falls through because of you?"
