The moment Hawk entered the office, he was hit by a bone-chilling, oppressive atmosphere.
"Mr. Shawn, I have the surveillance footage from the second-floor staircase in Building B," Hawk said, steeling himself.
Elias turned and looked at the large projection screen.
The ten-minute video clearly showed the entire incident: how Candice had deliberately made things difficult for Victoria and had tried to push her down the stairs.
Watching the moment Candice lunged at Victoria, even Hawk felt a jolt of fear. If Victoria had reacted a second slower, she would have been the one to fall.
"Get Candice up here," Elias commanded, his voice sharp.
"Yes, sir," Hawk replied, thinking to himself that Candice had truly shot herself in the foot this time.
No matter how much Elias disliked Victoria, she was still, for now, Mrs. Shawn. By laying a hand on her, Candice had shown blatant disrespect for that title, which no different from challenging Elias himself.
Still, Hawk was somewhat surprised that Elias had asked for the footage in the first place.
Previously, Elias never would have bothered with such things. If he had, Candice wouldn't have grown so arrogant as to attack Victoria in public.
Hawk left the office and glanced back through the slightly ajar door at the cold, aloof Elias.
"Am I imagining things?" he thought, "Mr. Shawn's attitude toward his wife seemed to be changing."
Remembering his orders, Hawk pushed the thought aside, cleared his mind, and headed for the elevator to find Candice.
Meanwhile, in the office, the video finished playing.
Elias's jaw was tight, his lips pressed into a thin line as he stared at the image of Victoria walking away on the screen. He felt as if something was slowly slipping from his grasp, and a wave of intense irritation washed over him.
He pulled out his phone and made a call.
"Well, look at this. Mr. Shawn actually has time to call me at this hour?" The voice on the other end was playful and teasing.
"Where are you?"
Sensing the change in Elias's tone, the other man immediately switched to a serious voice. "Thorne and I are at The Cloudscape."
"I'll be there in twenty."
Elias hung up, grabbed his suit jacket, and strode out of the office.
Just then, Hawk arrived with Candice, who had already had her scrapes treated. He was surprised to see Elias leaving. "Mr. Shawn, are you going out?"
Elias nodded, his gaze sweeping over Candice without a trace of emotion.
