Victoria stared at the rocking horse, lost in thought for a moment. She remembered the wedding gift box the staff had given them after she and Elias registered their marriage.
Inside, there had been a handmade wooden horse, palm-sized and exquisite.
When she unwrapped it, she had even taken a picture and sent it to Elias.
But at the time, Elias was already on a plane overseas and didn't reply. Or perhaps, he simply didn't want to respond to any of her messages.
At that thought, Victoria came back to her senses, realizing she had unconsciously walked to the door of the nursery.
Her eyes flickered. After a moment, she reached out and pushed the door open.
The moment the door swung open, the scene inside was revealed in its entirety.
A soft apricot color filled almost the entire room, a stark contrast to the minimalist black-and-white, cold style of the rest of The Imperial Crest Estates. Though separated by only a single door, the two spaces felt like entirely different worlds.
Victoria hesitated for a second before stepping inside.
Once inside, she discovered the nursery was much larger than she had imagined. It had been created by knocking down the wall between two guest rooms.
It was fully furnished, from a small cradle for an infant to a little desk and wardrobe for a young child. All the furniture and items a child would need as they grew were neatly arranged.
Victoria's feet carried her involuntarily toward the rocking horse. Beside it, she saw a much smaller wooden horse.
Her gaze froze. She bent down, picked it up, and turned it over. On the bottom, the letters 'V' and 'E' were crudely carved into the wood.
She had carved them herself with an engraving pen during the days she had waited for Elias to return from his business trip.
Victoria's fingers tightened unconsciously. The uneven surface of the carved letters scraped against the delicate skin of her fingertips, pulling her mind back from that memory.
Seeing that Victoria's complexion hadn't improved but had grown even paler, Anne couldn't help but worry.
