The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 421

Victoria was stunned. She stood there for a long time, only speaking after the nurses at the end of the hall had changed shifts. "Hawk, if there's any improvement at all, even if it's just a twitch of his finger, you have to tell me."

"Of course, Miss Sanger. I will."

"And," she paused, "I'll come visit him from time to time. After all… he's like this because he saved me."

Hawk's expression was complicated as he looked at her. He seemed to want to say something, but in the end, it only came out as a simple, "Understood."

As Victoria turned to leave, Hawk spoke again. "Miss Sanger, do you need me to give you a ride home?"

Victoria just shook her head, her voice soft but firm. "No, thank you."

She looked back toward the hospital room, sunlight from the hallway window catching on her eyelashes and casting a small shadow. "You're needed more here."

Hawk opened his mouth, but he swallowed the words "I'll arrange a driver for you" and simply nodded. "Alright, Miss Sanger. Take care of yourself."

"You too." Victoria walked toward the elevator, one step, then another, without looking back.

As the elevator doors closed, she saw Hawk turn and walk back toward the ICU, his posture straight, yet carrying an indescribable weight.

The elevator descended smoothly. Victoria raised a hand to her abdomen, where the faint flutter was now exceptionally clear.

*Elias, when you wake up, we still have a lot of scores to settle.*

*But before that, you have to wake up first.*

Leaving the hospital, Victoria hailed a taxi and gave the address for Willow Creek Estates.

The car moved through the city streets. The scenery outside flashed by, familiar streets now looking somewhat strange, as if seen through frosted glass.

When they arrived at her building, Victoria paid the fare and slowly walked upstairs, paper bag in hand.

The hallway was quiet. The voice-activated lights switched on at her feet, casting a dim, yellow glow on the walls that projected her thin shadow.

Victoria took out her key and opened the door. The faint smell of dust greeted her.

Dawn lifted her head from her cat bed, meowed upon seeing her, and slowly padded over to rub against her leg. While she was in the hospital, she had asked Sunny to feed the cat, so it had been about two weeks since she'd seen her.

After changing her shoes, Victoria knelt to stroke Dawn's head. Her fur was soft and warm. Glancing around, she saw that everything in the apartment was just as she had left it.

She stood up, took all the photos out of the paper bag, and carefully placed them in a drawer. Then, she sat down on the sofa and turned on her new phone.
