The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 59

[Victoria, I'm worried about you going alone. Are you sure you don't want me to come with you?]

Victoria didn't reply. She just stared at the address, her lips pressed together.

"Victoria?" Tobias noticed her distraction and called her name softly.

Meeting Tobias's concerned gaze, she put her phone away, her voice hoarse. "I'm fine... Tobias, something urgent came up at the Design Institute. I have to go."

"I'll drive you. I'm on my lunch break anyway," Tobias said, not feeling reassured.

"No, don't!"

The word escaped her almost involuntarily. Realizing her reaction was too strong, she quickly added, "I drove my own car, and I have to pick up a colleague. I don't want to trouble you."

Tobias looked at her, unconvinced, trying to read her expression.

But her face was a blank mask.

"Alright then. Be careful on the road. Drive slowly."

Victoria nodded and forced a faint smile, trying to appear as normal as possible before walking away from the hospital.

The moment she turned, the smile vanished from her face, her grip on her phone tightening.

-

A sprawling, rundown suburb at the intersection of New River Boulevard and King's Rise Avenue.

Harry's house was located there.

Two years ago, after receiving the compensation money from the Sanger Group, he had bought a plot of land and built a gaudy villa. Its opulent exterior stood out, impossible to miss.

A Mini Cooper was parked a short distance away.

Victoria stared at the villa, closing her eyes. Fragments of memories she had deliberately suppressed resurfaced, including one of Harry.

Two years ago, before he threw the rock at her, he had tried to assault her.

She had never told Grady about it.

Partly because she had been in shock, and partly because she was afraid of what Grady might do if he found out.

At that time, neither the Sanger family nor she could afford the risk of another family member getting into trouble.

A bitter smile touched Victoria's lips. In a twisted way, she was grateful she had kept it to herself. It meant she wasn't in an even weaker position now.

She opened her eyes and opened the small compartment on the side of her seat.
