"Gen, let's talk about this after you've recovered," Elias said, his voice soft but leaving no room for argument. "I need to step out and make a call."
With that, he turned and walked out of the room, giving Genevieve no chance to speak further.
The door clicked shut.
Genevieve's expression turned dark and twisted. She savagely tore at the edge of the blanket as if it were Victoria's face.
No!
She absolutely could not let Elias uncover the truth.
There were no cameras where she fell that night. The only loose end was the maid who had led Victoria to the changing room. She had to find a way to deal with that person, and quickly.
Genevieve immediately grabbed her phone from under the pillow and dialed a number.
It connected quickly.
"Well, well, am I seeing things? The famous Designer Vale is actually calling a lowlife like me?" a mocking voice came from the phone. "When we got divorced, you stood in front of that dreamboat of yours and swore you'd never have anything to do with scum like me again. What's this? Got dumped in less than half a year and decided to remember your ex-husband?"
Genevieve gripped the phone, fighting the urge to hang up. She got straight to the point. "I need you to take care of someone. Use whatever means necessary, just make sure no one can find her."
"Making a person disappear isn't easy," the voice said, full of insinuation.
"How much do you want?"
"Five million."
"Impossible!" Genevieve blurted out. Realizing her tone was too harsh, she softened her voice. "I don't have that much money. The most I can give you is five hundred thousand. Besides, I'm asking you to hide her, not kill her."
"No money? Genevieve, who are you trying to fool? I heard you just landed a big project. The design fee alone is in the tens of millions, isn't it? Besides, you might not have money, but Elias does. He dotes on you, went through all that trouble to force me to divorce you. Getting money from him should be easy, right? A mere five million is a drop in the ocean for The Shawn Group."
Genevieve understood what he was implying.
If she wanted his help, the five million was non-negotiable.
She gritted her teeth in frustration. If she wasn't afraid of arousing Elias's suspicion by acting herself, why would she ever make a deal with this gambling degenerate?
"Fine. I'll transfer the money to you after it's done."
"That won't work."
Genevieve thought he was trying to back out and warned, "Henry, don't push your luck!"
Henry threw his cigarette on the ground and crushed it with his shoe, completely ignoring her warning.
