The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 212

“Adelina, I warned you there are consequences for messing with me. If you’re so eager to self-destruct, be my guest.”

Adelina let out a sharp laugh. “As long as you don’t want to drag the Lane family’s name through the mud and blow up your thing with Lance, you’ll do what I say. Stop trying to threaten me.”

Harrell clenched his jaw, his eyes cold and empty. “Lance will never love you. Not now, not ever.”

Adelina’s face lost its color for a second.

“That’s not your problem,” she snapped. “What about what I asked you to do? When are you going to find out who the father of Catherine’s baby is?”

Harrell rubbed the sore spot on his cheek where he’d been slapped. “She switched doctors. She’s opened her file with someone else. My hands are tied.”

Adelina’s expression twisted with frustration. “Are you kidding me?”

Harrell’s tone dripped with sarcasm. “You’re pretty clever. I’m sure you can figure out some way to get her transferred back to me.”

Adelina shot him a look. “Getting you in there under Gavin’s nose was already almost impossible. You think I can just pull that off again?”

“Gavin?” Harrell’s eyes sparkled with amusement. “You’re putting on quite a show. Even Gavin’s caught up in it.”

“Save the sarcasm. Wait for my call.”

Adelina flicked her cigarette butt at him and walked away.

Harrell was her most important pawn, and she was determined to use him for everything he was worth…

He watched her leave, his stare colder than a Cabinda winter. But when he thought of what Adelina had on him, he bit back his anger and headed for his car.

...

Inside the car, it was quiet. The window was cracked open, wind whistling through the gap.

Lance rubbed his brow, dark eyes fixed on Catherine’s reflection in the window.

Her hair was sleek and black, skin pale and smooth, and she carried this faint, gentle scent that drifted his way.

Lately, every time he was alone with Catherine, something strange stirred inside him.
