“So? Is Catherine’s baby Lance’s or not?”
Harrell was fiddling with two vials, his face as calm as ever.
“Do you want the baby to be his or not?” he asked, almost too casually.
Adelina couldn’t take it anymore. “Why are you wasting time with questions? What I want doesn’t matter. Just tell me the truth.”
Harrell set the vials down, peeled off his gloves, and pulled a report out of his drawer. “Here’s the paternity test. See for yourself.”
Adelina snatched the report from his hand, her eyes scanning the results.
“It’s not Lance’s baby?” Her voice was shaky, her brows pulled tight in confusion.
Harrell looked at her, one eyebrow raised. “You’re upset? I thought you’d be relieved.”
“Are you sure there’s no mistake?” Adelina couldn’t accept it. No matter what, she had always believed the child was somehow connected to Lance. Even though Catherine only got pregnant six months after the divorce, and even though she’d watched them closely, convinced there was nothing between them now… Still, the idea was stuck in her mind like a splinter.
“Tell Catherine there’s something wrong with the baby. She can’t keep it.” Adelina tossed the report on the desk, grabbed her bag, and marched toward the door.
Harrell’s expression went cold. “I’m a doctor, not a killer. That’s a life. An innocent life.”
Adelina paused at the door. She turned back, looked Harrell in the eye for a few seconds, then suddenly let out a harsh laugh.
“Do you really think you have a choice, Harrell?”
His gaze darkened. “Adelina, if you need to use tricks to keep a man, that’s just pathetic. Go ahead, drag everything through the mud. I don’t care about my reputation, and you can forget about Lance. I won’t help you hurt someone for money or revenge.”
Adelina wasn’t the only one with secrets anymore. Harrell had his own leverage now.
She glared at him, her cheeks flushed with anger. “Are you threatening me?”
