The inside of the car felt cramped and tense, the kind of silence that made every word echo louder than it should.
Daniel’s voice came through the phone, clear and sharp, cutting right through the quiet. Belinda glanced at Sarah, her eyes full of surprise.
Sarah looked back at her, her voice dropping to a whisper. “What are you even talking about? What do you mean Adelina started all this?”
“Lance already looked into it. The anonymous tip about Gavin and Catherine came straight from The Green Family’s IP address. I just checked. It was sent from Adelina’s computer.” Daniel sounded completely overwhelmed. “Bring her back here. I want to hear what she was thinking.”
Belinda’s face grew darker, her eyes narrowing, anger rising up inside her.
“That has to be a mistake!” Sarah blurted out.
“How could it be a mistake? I’m telling you, I was on Adelina’s—” Daniel started, not realizing Belinda was right there in the car.
Before he could finish, Sarah hung up on him.
“Belinda, it’s got to be a misunderstanding.” Sarah tossed her phone aside and reached for Belinda’s hand.
Belinda pulled away. “Let’s hope so. We’ll find out when we see Adelina.”
Sarah’s expression turned anxious. She barely breathed as she quickly picked up her phone and fired off a bunch of messages to Adelina.
[Was it you who leaked the news about Gavin and Catherine?]
[Why would you do that?]
[Do you have any idea how much trouble this has caused for Lance and SilverLeaf Industries?]
[This must be some mistake. Just explain it to Belinda when you see her.]
[Belinda is furious, so be careful what you say.]
[Lance left you abroad, and Belinda came with me just to pick you up. Please, watch what you say!]
Adelina had basically run away from everything. As soon as her plane landed, she turned her phone back on.
Messages flooded in so fast she couldn’t make sense of them, catching only the last one.
