The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 248

Lance tossed his phone onto the bed and pulled a set of light gray pajamas from the closet. “Didn’t you say you’d never come back?”

On Harrell’s end, the steady hum of a car engine buzzed through the speaker. He was quiet for a while before finally answering. “It’s not up to me.”

Lance changed and slid under the covers, phone in hand. “You? Not in control?”

Harrell gave a short, bitter laugh. “When have I ever had any real say in the Lane family?”

The truth was, his only worth to them was his friendship with Lance. That was how he’d gotten the chance to study abroad in the first place.

“I’ll fix it for you,” Lance said, waiting for Harrell to come clean about why he’d come back.

Harrell hesitated, then brushed the question aside. “What are you going to do about your secretary?”

The scandal was everywhere. Most people outside the industry didn’t care, but because of his connection to Lance, Harrell always paid attention to business news.

“I’ll handle it the way it needs to be handled,” Lance replied, keeping it brief. He pulled the phone closer. “I’m hanging up.”

A soft lamp glowed by the bed, casting his shadow against the wall and outlining the sharp lines of his face. He lay there on his side, wide awake, staring into the darkness…
