The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 292

“I know I haven’t treated you two well these past years. But I’ve taken care of so many kids, including you. Maybe I haven’t done anything huge, but I’ve worked hard…”

Lorinda cut her off. “Do you want to end up in jail?”

Amanda stopped short, caught off guard.

“Save your excuses. If you don’t give us the money today, we’re going to the police.” Lorinda didn’t bother hiding her frustration.

Catherine’s face was just as firm. She made it clear she wasn’t budging.

“Please, just let me finish,” Amanda rushed out. “If you two just leave Cabinda and never come back, take care of your own kids and stop sending money to the orphanage, I’ll forget about the money, alright?”

Lorinda scoffed. “I wouldn’t trust a single word you say. Not even the punctuation.”

Amanda tried again. “I’ll sign something. A guarantee.”

“Your promises are worthless,” Lorinda shot back. She stood up, picked up her glass, and set it down hard. Water spilled onto the table, little beads catching the light along with her angry glare.

Realizing Lorinda wouldn’t budge, Amanda turned to Catherine.

“Lorinda and I need that money now. You have to give it back. It was meant to cover our expenses for the next few years,” Catherine said, her tone leaving no room for argument. “We’re not going to turn our backs on the orphanage kids, but don’t push us.”

Amanda’s expression turned sour. With both of them refusing to give in, she just snapped.

“The money’s gone. Not just today. It’s never coming back. If you’re going to make such a fuss, go ahead and call the police.”

Gone? Just like that?

All those years of saving, everything Catherine and Lorinda had worked for, gone in no time at all?
