The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 359

Lance’s fingers froze above the keyboard. He glanced over at Catherine, his eyes sharp and unreadable.

Catherine swore she’d only made a casual comment, but to Lance, it probably sounded like she was desperate to send him packing back to Cabinda.

“Catherine, you sure don’t waste any time burning bridges,” he said, almost teasing.

She shook her head in a hurry. “No, I just didn’t want you falling behind on work, that’s all.”

Leaning back in his chair, Lance fixed her with a long, steady look. “Relax. I won’t need you to look after me today.”

The truth was, Catherine really did want him gone. But she wasn’t wrong either. Lance working remotely meant everything moved at a snail’s pace.

“Alright then. I hope you take care of yourself, Lance. Wouldn’t want anything else happening to you.” She gave him a small, polite smile, her eyes narrowing just a little. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll head back to my office.”

Lance thought that smile of hers looked painfully fake.

No sooner had Catherine stepped out of his office than her smile disappeared. She rubbed her aching cheeks, took a deep breath, and went back to her desk.

The afternoon had barely started when Letty came in, holding a file. “Catherine, here’s the profile for the new PR manager transferred from headquarters. Take a look.”

“From headquarters?” Catherine’s eyebrows shot up as she took the file and opened it.

“It’s someone who got promoted from a lower position, not the actual head of PR,” Letty explained, stretching her neck to peek at the file. “See who it is, maybe I know them.” She’d tried to find out earlier, but all she got was that someone from another department had been promoted.

Catherine pulled out the resume and stopped cold when she saw the name. Sophia.

“Sophia?” Letty leaned in, squinting. “Do we even have someone by that name? I don’t remember her.”
