The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 38

"Catherine, remember that news story from a year ago about the scratches on Lance’s neck? Can you tell me how that happened?"

Gavin’s curiosity had a long memory.

Lance was always in the public eye, and Catherine was careful never to leave marks on him. She knew the rules. Except that one time, when Lance completely lost control and she just couldn’t handle it. Of course, that was the one night the paparazzi got their shot.

Still, with his girlfriend overseas and not a single rumor linking him to anyone, nobody really made a fuss. The story just faded away, no explanations needed.

"I have no idea," Catherine replied.

Gavin clicked his tongue. "You’re really tight-lipped. Seems like Lance is the only one who knows how to get you talking."

His tone made it obvious what he was hinting at, thinking back to that wild night and the way Lance had kissed her.

Catherine parked outside Gavin’s house and gave him a pointed reminder. "Gavin, don’t forget what you promised me."

"Relax." Gavin stepped out, walked around to her side, and tapped on the window. "Come on, get out. Stay here until morning and we’ll call it even."

Tomorrow was New Year’s Eve, and Gavin had to head back to the main family house. There was no way he’d let Catherine come along.

Two days of being his assistant had just turned into a single night. Not a bad trade.

But Catherine stared up at the mansion in front of her. It was worth eight figures and looked impressive, but something about it felt dangerous.

"Don’t worry. You’ll be here by yourself. I’m leaving," Gavin said, patting the car. "Come on, I’ll let you in."

He wouldn’t ask her to stay here overnight for no reason. Catherine knew that, but she didn’t have much of a choice. So she got out and followed Gavin into the house.

Gavin turned on the lights and the entire place lit up, bright as daytime.

"Pick any room you want," he said, leaning in the entryway and motioning her inside. "Make yourself at home. Get some rest."

Catherine remembered that after Gavin took over Golden Horizon Enterprises, the family had made him live here. He wasn’t coming back tonight, she was sure of that.

"It’s late, Gavin. Go get some sleep," she told him.
