The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 389

“Now you can’t leave, even if you want to.”

Lance’s voice came from behind her, deep and smooth, laced with a quiet authority.

He helped Catherine steady herself, but didn’t let go. Instead, he kept her close, his arms a silent shield.

The atmosphere around him was so intense that the swaggering man from moments ago lost all his bravado in an instant.

“Harrell, get them out of here. I’ll handle the rest.”

He was talking about Lorinda, Jasper, and Alexa, who were still in the car.

Since Catherine owned the car, she had to stay with Lance to deal with the accident.

Harrell opened the door and leaned in.

Lorinda was clutching Jasper, sobbing so hard it was like her whole world had fallen apart.

It was almost hard to believe she’d just been ready to throw down with the guy outside.

“Come on, let’s get you to the hospital.”

Lorinda got out, still holding her child, and Alexa followed behind her, grabbing their bags.

“Hey, wait a second—”

The man tried to puff himself up again. “You don’t need to get involved for two women you don’t even know!”

“We know them,” Lance replied, cool and direct. “So, how do you want to talk about this accident?”

People in the crowd started whispering, and the man’s hope of bullying a female driver and dodging responsibility completely fell apart.

He scrambled for another excuse.

“Oh, you know them? She’s pregnant, and you two are so close. Are you her husband or something?”

Catherine had never met anyone so unreasonable.

“Who he is to me is none of your business. You wanted to handle the accident, so let’s handle it.”

Lance’s hand tightened on Catherine’s waist, a subtle reaction.

She’d just made it clear he wasn’t her husband.

The man caught on right away. “So you’re not her husband. Then what are you two getting all cozy for? Is this some kind of affair? She’s already got a husband and a baby on the way, and you’re still rushing in to help her?”

Nothing draws a crowd like gossip. The onlookers started murmuring again, all eyes glued to the drama.
