The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 414

Adela sat with Sally, sharing a quiet afternoon tea. Setting her cup down, Adela stood and frowned, “How are we even involved with Lance? Why would we ever offend him?”

Geoffrey strode in and tossed his briefcase onto the sofa. “Then why did Lance’s people come looking for me, demanding answers? Don’t tell me the stuff online is connected to you two.”

Sally’s gaze flickered, refusing to meet Geoffrey’s eyes. Adela looked at her, genuinely confused. “What are you talking about? What news?” She grabbed her phone, scrolled a couple of times, and her face slowly drained of color. “Catherine’s pregnant? And... no one knows who the father is?”

Geoffrey saw her shock and realized she had nothing to do with it. He turned to Sally, catching the guilt written all over her face. “Well? Want to explain what’s actually going on?” he asked, his finger pointed right at her.

Sally hesitated, but there was no escape. “Honestly, it’s not my fault. Catherine’s the one who started this, flirting with Lance. Adelina couldn’t stand it...”

“So what?” Geoffrey cut her off, his voice sharp. “You just went ahead and let yourself get used as her pawn?”

He remembered seeing Sally and Adelina chatting at the party. He’d felt relieved, thinking Adelina—Lance’s future wife—was getting along with Sally. Who would have guessed Sally would be so naive, letting herself get dragged into someone else’s mess?

“Dad, I just... helped a bit, that’s all. Besides, Adelina is the one Lance is supposed to marry. Catherine doesn’t matter. If we stay on Adelina’s good side—” Sally started, but Geoffrey interrupted her.

“Stop. If Catherine really meant nothing to Lance, why would he put her in charge of the branch office? Now the news is out, and Lance is coming after me for answers. Does that sound like she’s unimportant?”

Sally clamped her mouth shut and stared at the floor. Adela set her phone down and looked at them. “So, whose child is it then?”

Sally almost blurted it out, but caught herself just in time. Adelina had warned her over and over that this secret had to stay buried. If anyone found out, Lance might really call off the wedding with Adelina.

Geoffrey lost his patience. “Is now really the time to worry about that? Figure out how to get this story taken down, and get ready to apologize to Lance.”
