The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 421

Lance sat by the window, one leg crossed over the other, a cigarette slowly burning between his fingers. He shot Harrell a brief look but didn’t say anything.

The phone on the entryway cabinet started ringing. Lance stood up, crossed the room, and picked it up. The call was from the James Estate.

“Lance, when are you coming back to Eldervale?” Fiona’s voice filled the line.

He glanced at his watch, sounding as calm as ever. “I’ll head back once I finish up here. Why are you still awake at this hour?”

“I can’t sleep. I’m worried about you.” Fiona let out a long sigh. “The wedding is so close, and you’re still in Eldervale. Are you… not planning on going through with it?”

Lance paused for a moment. “You don’t need to worry about me. I’ve got it handled.”

“What do you mean, you’ve got it handled?” Fiona sounded exasperated. “You ran off to Eldervale and your mother feels like she’s let the Green family down. She’s been taking care of every detail herself. The invitations are out, the hotel is booked, and even the wedding outfits for you and Adelina are ready.”

Belinda cared a lot about appearances. Even if things had gotten awkward, she refused to let anyone gossip about their family. Lance’s attitude made her nervous, like the wedding might fall apart at any minute. Still, she was determined to see it through, no matter what. She was never going to give him the chance to back out.

“Just be honest with your grandmother. What’s really going through your mind?” Fiona’s patience was wearing thin. “Are you actually going to marry her or not? If not, I’ll talk to your mother myself.”

It was obvious from Fiona’s tone that she wasn’t happy about the wedding.

“You know how my mother gets. Do you really think you can change her mind? If you try, the whole family will be in chaos, and everyone else will be laughing at us.” Lance tried to reassure her. “Stop worrying. I know what I’m doing.”

Once she realized Lance wasn’t going to ask for help, Fiona finally let it go. “Alright, if you don’t need your grandmother’s help, I won’t get involved. But can you do me a favor instead?”
