She acted clueless. “Be upfront about what?”

“You know, about the baby she’s carrying, that it’s—”

“Harrell, I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about.” Lorinda forced a smile, but her tone was pure innocence. “What’s there to come clean about with Catherine’s baby?”

Harrell went quiet for a few seconds. “Then I must have been mistaken. Sorry for bothering you, Lorinda.”

“Oh, not a bother at all. I just love being interrupted by you, Harrell.” Sarcasm dripped from Lorinda’s voice. “But really, it’s pretty bold to misunderstand basic English and call me up just for that…”

Ivan’s gaze turned suspicious, fixed on Catherine. “What could you possibly need to discuss privately? Lance is really busy.”

Since becoming Lance’s right-hand man, Ivan had grown pretty bold. Lance even started giving him more attention than before.

“Ivan’s right. If you have something to say, you can say it at lunch with us,” Lance said.

Ivan jumped in quickly. “Lance, Catherine’s leaving soon. Should she really be part of this conversation?”
