The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 450

The banquet was set for six in the evening.

After dropping Jasper off at home, Catherine had lunch and took a short nap before she started getting ready for the event. She picked out a black dress, which did a good job hiding her baby bump and made her fair skin look even brighter. Even without makeup, she looked fresh and full of life. The extra few pounds she'd put on made her cheeks glow.

She grabbed her purse and stepped outside. Gavin was already waiting at the door, leaning against his Rolls-Royce, his head bent over his phone. When he heard her come out, he glanced up for a split second, then looked back down at his screen.

They stood there, both silent for a moment. Suddenly, Gavin looked up again, his attention caught. The golden light from the setting sun hit Catherine, making her skin look almost luminous. Her long, black hair was tied into a ponytail that fell over her shoulder, and with her clean, natural look, she could have passed for a high schooler.

“Let’s go,” she said.

Catherine walked up and tugged at the car door handle, but it didn't budge. She looked up at Gavin, meeting his dark eyes. She frowned. “What are you staring off into space for?”

Gavin snapped out of it, stuffing his phone into his pocket and hurrying over to open the door for her. He tried the handle, but it was still locked. He gave a sheepish smile, pulled out the car key, unlocked the door, and finally opened it for her.

Every so often, he would sneak a glance at Catherine, only to look away quickly whenever she noticed.

Catherine remembered she hadn’t messaged Lorinda to let her know she wouldn’t be coming over for dinner. She pulled out her phone and started typing, completely missing Gavin’s nervous fidgeting.

By the time she finished sending her message and looked up, they were already driving out of the apartment complex. The evening sun was painting the mountains in rich orange, and the breeze was just starting to cool down. Catherine wrapped a floral shawl around her shoulders.

She turned to Gavin. “Does the Main family have business partners in Eldervale?”

Gavin glanced at her, then looked away again. “My dad came here ages ago, but I don’t really know the details. He just said I should meet up with them, just to be polite.”
