The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 566

If Catherine had come to deliver a gift on Lance’s behalf, then she must have met Davis. Davis must have said something to her, otherwise Catherine would never have left without so much as a word. Still, seeing her mother’s gentle, begging expression, Lorinda just couldn’t bring herself to upset her.

“Mom, if you’re really that concerned about Catherine, then the only way forward is to get to the bottom of what happened. That’s the only way we’ll ever find peace—not by running away.”

Latonia shook her head with a weary sigh. “Lorinda, it’s not that simple. If this has been Geoffrey’s scheme all along, then he started laying his plans more than twenty years ago. If we try to fight back now, it’s already too late. We have you, we have Owen, and now Jasper—our family is whole enough. There’s no need to risk anything more.”

Lorinda had heard variations of this ever since her first day back with the Lee family—even as she insisted they stay in the country, Davis and Latonia had never really let go of the idea of moving abroad.

“Mom, I can’t let this go,” Lorinda said, her tone unyielding. “Twenty years apart from my own family, all that pain and loneliness, everything you almost suffered yourself… I’m not running away, and I don’t want to talk about this anymore. I promise—I won’t meet Catherine. We’ll stay, we’ll find out the truth, and I’ll make sure those people pay for what they’ve done!”

With that promise, Latonia had no choice but to swallow whatever she’d been about to say.

“In that case, you have to do what your father says. No acting on your own, understand? We’ve only just found you again. We can’t risk losing you now.”

Seeing the shimmer of tears in her mother’s eyes, Lorinda’s heart clenched painfully.

“Alright. I’ll listen to Dad. I’ll stay with you every day…”

Lorinda stayed a while, comforting her mother. Only once Latonia had quieted down did she head downstairs in search of Harrell.

She found him in the designated smoking area, sunlight pooling around him as he squinted into the bright day. The moment he saw her, he stubbed out his cigarette.

“Harrell, can I ask you a favor?” Lorinda hurried over, a little out of breath.
