"Louise!" Joanna snapped, her voice tight with anger.
Louise just laughed, loud and cutting. "Jessa, let's go."
Without a backward glance, she swept out of the room, Jessa trailing behind her.
"Jessa!" Joanna called, but her words hung in the empty air.
Watching them go, Joanna pressed a trembling hand to her chest. Pain flickered across her face.
Moss caught her before she could fall. "Joanna! Hey, stay with me. Joanna!"
Ella rushed over, her voice calm but urgent. "Mr. Wade, help her onto the bed. Let me check her."
David had already collapsed, unconscious from the injection, while Ella moved quickly to take Joanna's pulse.
Moss hovered nearby, worry etched deep in his expression. "Ella, is it the poison again? Has it come back?"
Ella nodded slightly. Years ago, Louise had poisoned Joanna, not with the kind of spell she'd used on David, but with something slow and insidious. Luckily, Ella knew how to treat it.
Joanna’s skin was shockingly pale, but she forced a small smile. "I’m okay. Really."
Moss took her hand in his, his grip gentle. "Joanna, I’m so sorry. I never realized what Louise had become. I kept her close, and because of me, you got hurt. I didn’t see the truth. I let you suffer. I’m sorry."
His apology hung between them, full of regret.
For years, Joanna had felt nothing but anger and resentment towards Moss. She hated that he always took Louise’s side, that he let Louise get away with everything. But deep down, she knew he'd been fooled too.
Now, seeing him finally apologize, hearing the honesty in his voice, the hurt inside her started to fade.
She rolled her eyes at him, but her tone was softer. "Let’s not talk about the past. It’s over. Just promise me you won’t let another Louise into your life again."
He’d left everything to her.
People always said a man’s love could be measured by where he put his money. Moss was incredibly rich, and now he chose to give it all to her. Joanna stared at the papers, stunned.
She looked up at him, her eyes wide. "You’re really giving everything to me?"
Moss nodded. "You’re my wife. Of course it all goes to you. I thought about leaving something for Jessa, but she’s let me down too many times. I’m afraid if she had that money, she’d only make things harder for you."
Joanna’s eyes filled with tears, her vision blurring. Moss had thought of everything, always putting her first.
After all these years, his love felt even more precious.
Ella smiled at them both. "Mr. Wade, it looks like you’re truly ready."
Moss nodded again. "Yes. I’m ready. Ella, you can take my heart’s blood now."
