The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 789

“Okay.”

Ella immediately pulled out a sharp knife. “Mr. Wade, I’m going to do it now.”

Moss nodded. “Go ahead.” He closed his eyes.

Ella lifted the knife, the tip aimed straight at Moss’s heart.

“Stop!”

Joanna suddenly jumped off the bed, rushing between them. She wrapped her arms around Moss, holding him tightly.

Moss opened his eyes and looked down at her. “Joanna, what are you doing?”

She shook her head and clung to him even harder. “Moss, I can’t let you die!”

He gazed at her softly. “If it means saving you, I’ll do anything.”

“Why are you so good to me?” Joanna’s voice trembled. “Our families arranged our marriage. I always knew you didn’t care about me.”

Moss gently cupped her face. “It’s true. Back then, our marriage was just a way for two families to join forces. I didn’t have feelings for you when we got married. To me, it could’ve been anyone.”

As the heir to a wealthy family, marriage was all about business. The person beside him never seemed to matter.

Joanna’s gaze dropped and her arms loosened. She had always known he didn’t love her.

But Moss wasn’t finished. “I didn’t care about you at first, Joanna. We were strangers. But after we got married, you slowly worked your way into my life. You wouldn’t give up on me, no matter how distant I was. You were always there, clinging to me, making me notice you. I started to let my guard down. Little by little, you filled my heart. Joanna, I fell in love with you a long time ago.”

Moss reached up and gently wiped away her tears. “Don’t cry, Joanna.”

Without thinking, Joanna threw her arms around his neck. She stood on tiptoe and kissed him.

Moss froze, stunned.

Joanna pulled back just enough to look at him, her eyes gleaming with joy. “Moss, I love you too.”

Something in Moss’ expression changed, his eyes shining.

Joanna smiled through her tears. “I’m the Johnson family’s heiress. Even if marrying for our families was my duty, my parents always told me I could choose someone I loved. The moment I saw your photo, I knew I wanted you. I told my parents I wouldn’t marry anyone else, only you. That’s why our families arranged the marriage. When we met, I wore a red dress just to catch your eye. I wanted your attention. I wanted your love. I wanted you to love me the same way I loved you.”
