The worker went rigid, his face turning pale. “Wait, you mean Lucas?”
The man in black nodded. “That’s right. Lucas sent us here to end you. You won’t live to see the sunrise.”
The worker’s voice shook. “You’ve got the wrong person. Why would Lucas want me dead? Call him and ask, please. I don’t believe he’d do this.”
“No more talking,” the bodyguard snapped.
“I mean it. Call Lucas and check. We’re partners. Did he forget?”
A cold smirk crossed the bodyguard’s face. “Lucas knows exactly who you are. He said you know too much, and only a dead man can keep secrets. He also said you’re worth more to him dead than alive.”
The worker stared, stunned. “What is that supposed to mean?”
“Seriously, you still don’t get it? Once you’re gone, everyone will blame the Lynch family. Their company will go down for this. Lucas said your life isn’t worth much anyway, so using you to destroy the Lynch family, it’s a good trade.”
With a quick look, the bodyguard signaled the others. “What are you waiting for? Do it. Lucas wants this finished.”
“Understood.”
Two men stepped forward, pulling out a thick rope. They looped it around the worker’s neck and started to pull.
The worker was clever. At first, he’d doubted these men were really from Lucas. He couldn’t believe Lucas would actually turn on him.
