“Mr. Farill, thank you. None of this would’ve worked out so perfectly without you.”
Lilly’s voice was soft but honest.
Jason studied her for a moment. “Are you sure you really want to thank me, Lilly?”
She nodded, looking him straight in the eyes. “Yes, I mean it.”
He took a step closer, closing the space between them. “Then I’ll be waiting for you to show me just how thankful you are.”
That made her cheeks burn. She could feel the blush creeping up all the way to her ears.
Jason pulled open the passenger door. “Come on, get in. I’ll drive you home.”
Lilly slipped into the car, and Jason took the wheel. He pressed down on the gas, and the city lights blurred past as they sped through the night.
About thirty minutes later, his sleek car rolled to a stop in front of the Lynch family villa. Lilly unbuckled her seatbelt and glanced at him. “Mr. Farill, I’m home now.”
Jason looked at her, his voice low. “Alright. I’ll be waiting for your call, Lilly. Don’t forget what we talked about.”
He was reminding her, and she felt the weight of his words.
Lilly got out quickly and walked up to the house. Even though she didn’t turn around, she could feel Jason’s eyes on her, lingering, watching until she disappeared inside.
As soon as she stepped in, May and Victoria hurried over. “Lilly, you’re back!”
Lilly handed the recording device to May. “Mom, give this to Dad. He’ll understand.”
May looked surprised. “Where did you get this, Lilly?”
“Mr. Farill gave it to me. He really helped us out this time.”
