The woman, clearly annoyed, clicked away in her high heels, trying to keep her dignity even though she’d just been put in her place.
Lilly let out a satisfied little snort.
Jason watched her, a quiet laugh tugging at his lips.
The sound caught Lilly’s attention. She narrowed her eyes at him, feigning annoyance. “Mr. Farill, what’s so funny?”
Jason met her gaze. “Lilly, didn’t you say you weren’t coming?”
Lilly lifted her chin, looking stubborn. “If I hadn’t shown up, would you have just found someone else to spend the night with, Mr. Farill?”
Jason’s eyebrow shot up. “I never said that.”
Lilly glared at him. “You’re such a player.”
She tossed the insult over her shoulder and turned to go.
But Jason was quicker. He opened the car door and caught her slender wrist, tugging her toward him. Lilly tumbled right into his lap.
The car was roomy, but with both of them squeezed into the driver’s seat, it felt way too close. The sudden closeness made Lilly’s cheeks turn pink.
She shot him another glare. “Mr. Farill, let me go.”
Jason just closed the door, keeping her there. “Lilly, are you mad? I didn’t say anything, I didn’t do anything, and you’re just going to call me names and leave?”
Lilly huffed. “You might not have done anything now, but if I hadn’t come down, you would’ve taken that woman to a bar, had some drinks, and then gone to a hotel, right? Are you really that lonely, Mr. Farill?”
Jason reached out, gently tilting her chin up. “I don’t agree with any of that, except for one thing. I am lonely. So, Lilly, will you keep me company?”
He didn’t even try to deny it.
Lilly rolled her eyes. “Shameless.”
