Jason’s hands balled into fists at his sides. He crossed the restaurant in a few long strides and stopped right at Lilly and Lucas’s table. “She’s not eating.”
Lilly looked up, startled by the familiar voice. “Jason? What are you doing here?”
Without waiting for her to react, Jason grabbed her arm and pulled her up from her seat. “Come with me.”
He didn’t give her a chance to protest. He was already leading her away.
Lucas spoke up, his tone a little sharp. “Mr. Farill, you’re just going to take Lilly like that? She’s having dinner with me tonight.”
Jason shot Lucas a cold look. “Lilly is my girlfriend now. I’m warning you. If you ever try to see her behind my back again, you’ll find out exactly how far I’m willing to go to protect what’s mine.”
He didn’t wait for a response. Jason took Lilly’s hand and walked her right out of the restaurant.
Lucas dropped his knife and fork on the table with a loud clatter. He had tried to provoke Jason on the phone, but Jason had still shown up to take Lilly away. His little plan to stir up trouble between them hadn’t worked at all.
So frustrating.
Someone walked up to his table just then. “Hi, Lucas.”
Lucas turned and saw Jill standing there.
He recognized her. He’d already had someone look into the woman who kept hanging around Jason. Rumor had it she was a doctor.
Lucas eyed her carefully. “Jill, you know who I am? I don’t think we’ve ever spoken.”
Jill smiled. “Lucas, you know what they say. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. I guess that makes us friends now.”
He raised an eyebrow. “So Jason dumped you?”
Jill shrugged. “Didn’t Lilly dump you too, Lucas?”
Lucas’s expression darkened. “Are you here to make some kind of deal?”
Jill nodded. “Exactly. You want Lilly. I want Jason. We can work together and both get what we want.”
