Jason woke up in a hospital bed, the sharp scent of disinfectant filling the air. An IV was attached to his hand, cold and uncomfortable.
He shifted a little, his voice rough as he called out, “Lilly…”
Kent rushed over, relief and worry all over his face. “Sir, you’re awake? You scared me half to death. Did you know you collapsed in the pouring rain? The doctor said you passed out from being too upset, and the cold got to you.”
Jason tried to sit up, but his strength was gone and his head felt heavy.
Kent quickly stepped in. “Sir, are you trying to get up? The doctor said you need to rest. Don’t move.”
Jason stared at the ceiling. The memory of standing in the rain with Lilly, the moment she walked away, kept replaying in his head. His chest ached so much he could barely breathe.
“I need to find Lilly… I have to see her…” He reached for the needle in his hand.
Kent’s eyes went wide. “Sir, you can’t take that out! You need to rest. You really can’t leave bed right now!”
“Move. I have to find Lilly.”
Jason was too anxious to listen. His vision faded, and everything went black again.
“Sir!” Kent called out, panic in his voice. He ran out for help. “Doctor! Please, hurry!”
The doctor checked Jason over, then turned to Kent. “Mr. Farill is very weak right now. He can’t handle any more stress. He needs complete rest.”
“I understand, Doctor.”
After the doctor left, Kent looked at Jason lying there, unmoving. “Sir, your health matters most right now. Please don’t push yourself like this.”
Jason started mumbling in his sleep. “Lilly… we’re not breaking up… Lilly… Lilly…”
He kept repeating her name, one plea after another.
Kent sighed. “Sir, I’ll call Lilly. I’ll ask her to come.”
