Jason didn’t belong to her anymore. She knew it. He probably didn’t even want to see her again.
“Ella, I know you’ve been busy. Go on, get back to it,” Lilly said softly.
“Okay.”
They hung up. A tiny bit of relief washed over Lilly, but only for a moment. All she wanted now was for Jason to get better.
Suddenly, her phone started ringing again. She glanced at the screen. Another call.
She answered, and Kent’s familiar voice came through. “Lilly? It’s Kent, Mr. Farill’s assistant.”
“Kent? Why are you calling me?”
“Lilly, you need to come to the hospital. The boss, he’s here. He’s been admitted.”
Her heart dropped.
“What happened? Why is he in the hospital?” Her grip tightened on the phone as she sat up, wide awake now.
“Lilly, last night he stayed out in the rain. All night. The doctor said it was stress and exposure. He collapsed. He’s here now.”
So he hadn’t left at all. He’d collapsed, right there.
He was in the hospital.
Lilly’s chest ached.
“Lilly, please, come see him.”
Should she go? They’d already broken up. She’d pushed him away for his own good. If she went now, it would just make things harder for both of them.
“No. I can’t. He’s in the hospital, he’ll be taken care of. The doctors will look after him.”
“Lilly, are you sure? While he was unconscious, he kept calling your name. He really wants to see you.”
He called her name?
