The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 274

Galen’s face drained of color as Franco spoke. “Are you serious?” His voice was clipped, tense.

Who would dare poison Adelaide? She was the picture of kindness, patient with everyone. Always giving to charity, never once harsh with the people who worked for her. When she died, every single servant at the White estate cried their eyes out.

Galen had basically grown up in that house. When he was a kid and got tired from running around, Adelaide would scoop him into her arms, teasing that she should just adopt him as a grandson. Even when he was older, she still called him over for meals and made sure he was doing alright.

Her death weighed heavy on him. He still missed her, couldn’t quite imagine she was really gone.

That was why, when Jay told him Adelaide hadn’t wanted Petty at the funeral, he hadn’t known how to feel. He didn’t go out of his way to see her, just sent someone to deliver a cushion so Petty wouldn’t have to kneel on the hard ground.

But who could be heartless enough to poison Adelaide?

Franco shook his head, placing the lab report down. “We can’t know for sure.” His voice was flat. They had no proof, no leads at all.

While Adelaide was alive, every checkup came back perfect. Her bloodwork was always clean. No one ever suspected anything like poisoning.

But now, poisoning seemed to be the only option left. Everything else had been ruled out.

If it had been something radioactive, then Jackson and Adelaide’s assistant, who saw her every day, would have gotten sick too. But they were both fine.

All signs pointed to poison.

And with Adelaide gone, everything about the investigation was going to get harder. It wasn’t something they’d solve overnight.

Galen pressed his lips together, thinking. “We’ll have to keep this quiet and take our time. When did she first start feeling off?”

“She went in for a checkup December twentieth. She’d already had symptoms for about a week. So, around December thirteenth,” Franco replied, like he’d had the answer ready.

Galen nodded, then paused, realizing Franco hadn’t even needed to think about it. “You remember that so clearly.”
