The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1301

“What?”

Newell’s deep blue eyes narrowed as soon as he heard Dr. David’s words. There was a dangerous edge in his gaze. “Take what?”

Dr. David’s mouth opened and closed. He scrambled for an explanation. “Take what? You heard wrong. I just meant, if you overwork yourself, it’ll mess with your medication.”

“Is that so?”

Newell stared at Dr. David, his eyes searching, picking up on the lie, but he let it go. “Alright. Got it.”

“Good.”

Dr. David forced a smile, trying to brush away the awkward tension.

Once he stepped out of the villa, Dr. David couldn’t help but smack his own forehead in frustration. He pulled out his phone, hands shaking, and called Charlotte. The words tumbled out, barely above a whisper. “Lottie, I think I screwed up.”

...

After Dr. David left, Newell went back to his bedroom and spotted his phone sitting in the corner where he’d tossed it. When he picked it up, he realized the signal was blocked.

His frown deepened. He headed downstairs, planning to leave the villa, but the guards at the door stopped him.

“Newell, Nine’s orders. You can’t leave the villa unless she says so.”

Thinking back to Dr. David’s weird behavior, Newell figured something must have gone down.

“Call Nine for me.”

These were Charlotte’s people. They were just doing their job, so he didn’t push. But he needed answers.
