Emily: "..."
She couldn't out-argue Daniel.
And she knew Daniel made perfect sense.
Hiding it was a dead end.
Leaving aside how long Rhys's body could hold out, Clara's stomach genuinely couldn't be hidden for much longer.
Paper can't wrap a fire. When the day finally came that she could no longer hide it, wouldn't the fallout be even worse?
But telling him was also a dead end.
She could already guess exactly what would go through Rhys's head.
It would definitely be: *It's over, Clara is going to have to raise two kids all by herself.*
Or worse, he might say something like, *"We shouldn't keep this baby."* If he did that, Clara might literally rip the oxygen tube out of his nose and end him right then and there.
Daniel was right. She couldn't shoulder a responsibility that involved actual lives.
Clara was completely submerged in panic and chaos right now, her brain flooded with the absolute worst-case scenarios, leaving her no mental capacity to make a rational judgment.
She wasn't thinking clearly. She needed someone to help her make a decision, someone to stand in front of her and take the hit.
Relying solely on herself, Emily couldn't contain something this massive.
She needed an ally.
Thinking this through, Emily pressed her lips together and sized Daniel up from head to toe.
She looked up, looked down, looked left, looked right.
She stared so intensely that Daniel started to feel a bit unsettled, wondering if his tone had been too harsh earlier. Maybe he shouldn't have used his cross-examination voice on a pregnant woman.
"Do you..." Daniel hesitated. "Do you want to sit down first?"
"Daniel."
"Hmm?"
"I'm going to tell you something," Emily's voice finally stabilized. "But you have to promise me three conditions first."
Daniel nodded. "Speak."
"First, whatever I tell you now, until we have a solid plan, you are not allowed to tell Rhys. Not even a hint! You're a lawyer, do your job and keep it confidential!"
Daniel considered the boundaries and feasibility of this condition. "Fine. Go on."
"Second, after you hear it, you are not allowed to give me any of that 'you should have done this or that' nonsense."
