"She is asleep." Felicia walked over, sat in the single armchair nearby, and looked at the man. "I read the document you sent me today."
Max didn't reply.
He waited for her to continue.
"The project is indeed suitable for GeoSmart, but you gave it of your own accord, so I don't owe you any favors." Originally, she had planned to reject Caroline. It was Max who had unilaterally approved GeoSmart's proposal.
Max stared at her face, letting out a light laugh. "I didn't say you owed me a favor. Since you've made up your mind, someone will handle it. You don't need to worry about it anymore."
Felicia didn't argue, simply giving a slight nod.
"And who is his wife to you?"
Felicia answered, "A friend I met five years ago. My personal trainer."
Max didn't pry further. "You should go get some rest."
Felicia stood up and went upstairs.
The next day, Felicia contacted Easton's office to inform them, then didn't go to GeoSmart in person.
Around five in the afternoon, she was driving toward the convention center when she received a call from Caroline, earnestly inviting her over to their house. Felicia politely declined.
Caroline naturally understood Felicia's meaning. Her help for GeoSmart this time was a one-time thing. She didn't insist on the home invitation, suggesting instead, "How about we eat out then? I'll book a restaurant. When are you free? I truly just want to properly thank you, Felicia."
Eating at home versus eating at a restaurant conveyed two very different attitudes.
Felicia agreed.
Caroline felt relieved.
Arriving at the entrance of the convention center, she took out her phone and called Luke.
He was attending an event here today.
He had jokingly asked Felicia to pick him up after work, and Felicia had actually agreed.
"I need about twenty more minutes. Wait for me for a bit."
Felicia said, "Sure, I'll wait."
"Great."
