The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 892

Felicia looked at her friend. "He is heading back to Northwick tomorrow."

Meeting Felicia's gaze, Savannah merely shrugged and popped a piece of the orange she had just peeled into her mouth. "What does that have to do with me?"

"If we set aside everything involving Andrea, what kind of person do you really think he is?" Felicia asked suddenly. Now that she knew Darin's true identity, she found herself completely unable to reconcile the warm, protective older brother from her childhood memories with the man he was today. The two versions of him felt entirely fractured. Even though he was currently trying to make amends, burdened with guilt and constantly apologizing, she still could not merge the two images in her mind. That was exactly why she could not accept him.

Savannah paused, reaching over to grab a throw pillow and hugging it tightly to her chest. She tilted her head back, staring up at the ceiling as her thoughts drifted far away into the past.

After a long silence, she finally spoke, her tone incredibly serious. "Honestly, back then, I truly believed he was a man worth entrusting my life to. Besides his superficial qualities, he was emotionally stable. Whenever I needed help, he was always capable of solving my problems. Because of that, even when he constantly put Andrea first, I swallowed my pride and endured it."

A bitter smile touched her lips. "I actually went out of my way to suck up to Andrea just for Darin's sake. He was so protective of that sister of his that I honestly started to suspect he had some kind of twisted sister complex. No matter how angry I got, I told myself I had to endure it if I wanted to marry him."

Felicia took a glass of milk from the nanny and sat quietly, absorbing Savannah's words. It seemed that even the most exceptional women were far more susceptible to being blinded by love than men. It was human nature. Men often prioritized value and tangible benefits, while women perpetually chased after a sincere heart. Yet, countless cruel realities constantly reminded women that genuine affection was rare, and sincere hearts were all too easily changed.

"Perhaps the thing he truly cared about back then was not even Andrea herself," Savannah continued, her voice trembling slightly. "Even when we reached the engagement stage, I could feel that he still would not have married me even if Andrea had not been in the picture. But the moment the engagement was officially called off, I was consumed by such intense hatred. It was entirely unacceptable. I wanted nothing more than to drag him down to hell with me."

By the end of her confession, Savannah's voice had grown thick with emotion. "Now that I know everything, considering his precarious position within the Curtis family back then, getting married would have only dragged him down further. We were simply destined to cross paths but never meant to stay together."

Though her words spoke of letting go, her tone was still laced with unspeakable, lingering sorrow.

The living room plunged into silence once more. It was only after Savannah had visibly calmed down that Felicia gently probed further. "What about now?"
