Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 697

Madeline leaned into Shelly’s shoulder and nodded. “Okay,” she whispered.

Shelly had tried to arrange a private doctor and a few maids to help Madeline out, but Madeline just shook her head.

“I need to do this myself,” she insisted. “What if I never get my sight back? No one’s going to be there to look after me forever.”

So Shelly just watched as Madeline learned to get by on her own, stumbling into furniture, tripping, and getting right back up with fresh cuts and bruises. Every time, Shelly’s hand would reach out, wanting to help, but Ray would quietly pull her back.

“She meant what she said. She needs to figure things out herself.”

Shelly’s eyes were red. She looked over at Ray, her voice tight. “You really don’t feel bad for her?”

Ray raised his eyebrows, almost surprised she’d asked. “Why would I? I only care about you.”

He never tried to hide it. Madeline wasn’t his daughter, just Shelly’s with someone else. The fact that he didn’t hate her was already a stretch. Feeling pity? He actually found that funny.

Shelly clenched her jaw. She was about to fire back when Jane walked in with Alianna.

Alianna rushed to Ray’s side, linking her arm through his with practiced sweetness. “Dad.”

He seemed caught off guard. “Alianna? Why are you two here?”

Alianna looked up at him, beaming. “I haven’t seen you in days. I missed you, so we came by.” Her eyes flicked to Shelly, and just like that, her smile faded. She looked small and fragile. “Oh, Shelly, Madeline... you’re here, too.”

Shelly didn’t bother to hide her disgust, letting out a cold laugh and staring straight at Ray. “You might want to get your daughter’s head checked.”

Madeline stood quietly by Shelly’s side. “I can’t see anything, but this is the Ballard house, right?” Her voice was soft and clear.

For a split second, Alianna looked embarrassed—but she covered fast, dropping her head and letting tears pool in her eyes. “Dad, did Mom and I come at the wrong time? I just wanted to see you. I don’t think Shelly and Madeline are happy we’re here.”
