Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 698

Ray’s jaw was tight. “You really need to work on that temper.”

Shelly shrugged, calm and unforgiving. “Too late for that. If you’ve got the guts, why not divorce me and run off with your darling Jane? After all these years, wouldn’t it be a waste not to make it official?”

“You’re being impossible.” Ray’s frustration was clear, but he didn’t have it in him to yell at Shelly. He let out a sharp breath, shook his head, and walked out, sleeves brushing against his side.

“Mom, are you okay…” Madeline’s voice trembled. The argument had shaken her.

Shelly turned away from Ray without a word and crouched next to Madeline, gently looking over the scrape on her leg. “Don’t worry about what you just heard. Are you hurt? Did you hit your knee?”

“Ow, Mom, go easy... that kind of stings.”

“I’m sorry, sweetheart. I’ll be careful. You’re as stubborn as they come. It’s like you have to go through everything yourself to believe it. Even if you really did lose your sight forever, I’d still be here taking care of you.” Her words were soft, full of love and worry.

Ray stopped in the hallway outside. He looked back at his wife and daughter, eyes catching on the wound on Madeline’s leg. A wave of something heavy and uncomfortable washed over him, making it hard to breathe.

Later, while Shelly dabbed ointment on Madeline’s scraped knee, Madeline hesitated, biting her lip before whispering, “Mom, what’s really going on with you and Ray?”

Just from overhearing the fight, Madeline had figured out that Jane and Alianna were nothing but trouble. Alianna’s constant “Dad” stuff was so obviously on purpose, and what was even weirder, Ray never stopped her.

Shelly only gave a small huff. “Nothing’s going on. I can handle it. You should just focus on healing. I’ll tell everyone not to let those two step foot in the house again. If you run into them somewhere else, be careful. Understand?”
