Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 699

It was late, the windows stretched from floor to ceiling, and Madeline sat curled up on the big sofa with Noah and Oliver pressed against her sides.

She’d finally taken off the bandages. Even though she still couldn’t see, her eyes were as beautiful as ever.

Madeline sat quietly, lost in thought, until Oliver nudged her.

“Mommy, are you thinking about Daddy?” he asked, lips poked out in a tiny pout.

A smile tugged at Madeline’s mouth. She hadn’t realized how much she missed Julian until just now.

“Yes, honey. I really do miss him.”

Noah leaned forward, hesitating. “Mom, why did we have to leave? Why can’t we just all stay together with Daddy?”

Madeline’s smile wavered, her voice growing soft. “Because Mommy’s worried… Your daddy has already done too much for me, even hurt himself. And there’s still that misunderstanding between me and your great-grandfather. If I stayed, it’d only make things worse between the two of them. Do you really want to see Daddy fighting with Great-grandpa again?”

Both boys shook their heads hard. “No, we don’t want that.”

Oliver’s eyes were huge and searching. “So when your eyes get better, does that mean we can all go back?”

Madeline reached out and smoothed his hair. “Maybe. But Mommy still needs to figure some things out first.”

Christian had hated her so much since Brian’s accident. If she didn’t find out what really happened all those years ago, she and Julian would never have a chance to be together.

The more Madeline turned it over in her mind, the more certain she became that Brian’s crash wasn’t an accident. If the car had been sabotaged, Brian would have lost control no matter where he went. It was a secret that meant everything to the Grayson family and to Madeline and her mother.

“Mommy, Daddy must really miss you too,” Oliver said suddenly, his voice quiet and sad. “You don’t even know, but he had a surprise planned for you. It’s too bad you can’t see it now.”

“A surprise?” Madeline blinked, curiosity flickering across her face. “What kind of surprise?”

It was strange, almost unsettling, until Madeline realized that for Christian, as long as she took herself out of his grandson’s life, that was enough.

Without all the old power plays and drama, life began to settle into something quiet and almost ordinary. It felt good, like things were finally right again.

And then, before she knew it, a year had passed. Spring returned, soft and full of promise.

The day had finally come. Madeline was getting her cornea transplant today, and now the bandages were ready to come off. Early in the morning, she was woken by the sound of voices outside, lots of people, all bustling around.

Soon the doctor came in, calm and careful. He leaned in and began to gently remove the gauze from her eyes.

“Ms. Monroe, you can open your eyes now.”

The whole room went still. For a moment, it felt like everyone was holding their breath.
