Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 712

The door clicked shut behind them, leaving Brenda and Mitch alone. The room fell so silent, she swore she could hear her own heartbeat.

Mitch didn’t look the least bit bothered. He didn’t rush to explain, didn’t seem guilty, not even a flicker of surprise in his eyes. He just sat up straighter, picked up his fork and knife, and started cutting into his steak like nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

“Are you hungry?” Mitch asked, sounding almost bored.

His voice was calm, steady, completely untouched by embarrassment. It was as if he hadn’t just been caught by his girlfriend with another woman.

She almost laughed. Wasn’t it ridiculous? He wasn’t even rattled that she’d walked in on this scene. And then he had the nerve to ask if she was hungry.

Brenda sat frozen, her mind whirling. Maybe nothing had actually happened, or maybe Mitch truly didn’t care about her at all, so much so that he didn’t even think an explanation was necessary.

She remembered the way Julian acted when he loved Madeline. He’d waited outside in the freezing cold all night, just for a chance to tell her that he hadn’t cheated. That was what it looked like when a man actually cared.

And Mitch? Mitch could still sit there eating his steak, looking completely unbothered.

Brenda tried to convince herself that if he would just say it—just tell her nothing happened—she could pretend none of this ever happened.

But he said nothing.

No explanation. No apology.

He really didn’t care about her.

Brenda looked down, a bitter smile twisting her lips. She didn’t want to ask, but she forced the words out anyway. “What did Sienna want from you?”

“Just talking,” Mitch replied, not even glancing up.

“Talking… naked?”

Mitch let out a short laugh, like the situation was some kind of joke.

Something in Brenda snapped. Just seeing his cool, indifferent face made her vision blur with rage. The urge to throw her steak at him overwhelmed her.

So, she did.

Steak splattered squarely across Mitch’s face. He froze for a second, stunned, as Brenda grabbed her bag, turned, and stormed out, slamming the door behind her.

For a split second, Mitch almost called after her. He almost explained.

But he didn’t.

Instead, he looked at the steak sliding onto the floor. He laughed under his breath, pulled a napkin to wipe his face, and muttered, “What a waste.”
