Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 734

“She was bullied?” Julian’s brow furrowed. He couldn’t quite picture anyone daring to mess with Madeline, sharp as she was.

“Yes! Daddy, let’s go see Mommy. She must be so sad,” Oliver said, grabbing Julian’s hand and tugging him toward the door. He was so small but seriously determined.

Noah chimed in, never missing a beat. “Daddy, you better do something, or someone else will swoop in and take Mommy. Tons of guys like her, you know.”

Julian raised a brow at that, his expression skeptical, but he didn’t put much stock in it. What would these two little troublemakers know about adults?

After her hospital visit, Madeline settled onto the couch, propping her swollen ankle on some pillows and holding an ice pack. She listened as Shelly discussed plans with Maxwell, the conversation making it clear she intended to stick around for a while.

“Mom, are you really staying here?” Madeline asked, looking up at her.

Shelly shot a look at Madeline’s poor ankle and sighed. “How could I go home when you’re hurt like this? Of course I’m staying to look after you.”

Madeline smiled and curled in, hugging Shelly’s arm. “You’re the best, Mom.”

Shelly gave her a soft tap on the forehead. “You should’ve told me about everything sooner. Believe me, I never would’ve let Ray lay a finger on you.”

Just talking about it made Shelly bristle again.

During the car ride over, Madeline had told Shelly the whole messy story. Now, Shelly remembered something else. “You said Julian lost his memory?”

Madeline’s lashes trembled. “Yeah.”

“How did that happen?”

“Claire’s always had a knack for... I don’t know, her twisted chemistry and experimental toxins. I think she did something. The only thing I don’t get is how she pulled it off.”

Shelly’s lips tightened as she recalled Christian’s face at the hospital. “It was Christian.”

Madeline stiffened. “You mean Christian helped Claire drug Julian?”

“Who else would do it? The day he found out Julian donated his cornea to you, Christian would have done anything to erase you from Julian’s life.”

Madeline hadn’t completely trusted Christian, but he was Julian’s grandfather. She had always assumed he’d look out for him, not risk his health like that.

Now, with Shelly’s pointed words, Madeline was almost certain—Christian was the one behind it all.

“So Claire’s probably with Christian,” Madeline murmured.

She needed to find Claire. After all, she was the only other survivor from that car crash, and she might know even more than she let on.

Julian had Claire in custody once, but after he lost his memory, he probably forgot she was still alive—and that she’d had plastic surgery to look like Madeline. That was why Madeline had never brought it up again.

The doorbell rang twice, sharp and cheerful. A maid hurried to answer it.

Madeline glanced over just as Brenda bustled inside, arms full of fancy gift bags. “Shelly!” she called, nearly running over in her excitement.

Shelly barely had time to stand before Brenda wrapped her in a big hug. Shelly laughed softly and didn’t move away.

“You really have your ways, don’t you? How’d you know I was in the Capital?”

Brenda grinned. “Madeline told me! I had to come right away. I brought you a few things, just because.”

Shelly pulled her into a seat. “You really don’t have to bring gifts when you come here. Just show up, that’s enough.”
