Madeline made a “please leave” gesture with her hand.
She had no desire to watch them perform any longer.
Alianna bit her lip. How dare this bitch humiliate her like this.
Fire flashed in Alianna’s eyes as a plan formed in her mind.
“Madeline, you don’t have to be so hostile toward us. All we want is to live our lives peacefully. Is that so difficult?
You and Shelly have everything, while my mother and I have nothing. Ray is the only one willing to take us in. If that makes you unhappy, we’ll leave.
But Madeline, we’re human beings, too. You can’t keep embarrassing us just because you don’t like us.”
As she spoke, Alianna shot a subtle glance at Julian.
Madeline thought Julian should probably say something now to help Alianna complete her little drama.
Unfortunately for Alianna, Julian’s dark eyes were completely cold, and he didn't spare her so much as a glance.
The air hung silent for a moment.
With no one taking her cue, Alianna’s eyes darted around awkwardly. Then, she started crying, as if on command.
“Clap. Clap. Clap.”
James, lounging casually on the sofa, began to applaud with a smile. He looked at Alianna, his handsome features relaxed. “You’re Alianna, right?”
Confused, Alianna nodded. “I am.”
“Good. Excellent. I’ll remember you.”
