When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 378

But this time, Brody pushed Sheila’s hand away. He stared at her, cold and distant, like he was seeing her real self for the very first time. Sheila’s eyes flickered. Before she could say anything else, the police came over and took her in for questioning.

Nelly let out a quiet sneer. Selina was falling apart, but Sheila still managed to look at Brody with those dreamy, lovesick eyes. Honestly, her nerves must be made of steel. However, Nelly had no interest in wasting another second with either of them.

She glanced at Brody for just a moment, then turned and walked out of the station. Brody caught up to her in a few quick strides, grabbing her arm.

“I need to talk to you.”

“So do I, but not here.”

They stepped outside. Nelly stopped by her car, looking down at her shoes. Her voice was calm, her mind sharp. She almost scared herself with how rational she sounded. She was in the middle of a marriage breaking down, catching her husband cheating, but her feelings were buried deep, hidden away like they’d sunk to the bottom of the ocean. On the surface, she was perfectly calm.

“I’ll have my lawyer send over a new divorce agreement tomorrow. Carrie can decide for herself who she wants to live with.”

She paused, then looked up at him.

“You have three days. Sign the papers in three days.”

Brody’s eyes narrowed. Nelly met his gaze.

“If you don’t, your relationship with Sheila goes straight to the headlines. Garland Inc.’s stock will drop farther than you can imagine.”

“I said I’m not getting a divorce.” Brody’s voice was low and dark, the kind of tone that used to make people back off. The way Nelly was threatening him reminded him a bit too much of himself. Garland Inc. was his biggest weakness, but Nelly didn’t seem to realize something had changed. Now, she was his weakness too.
