The thought of Sheila hurting Carrie was just too much. He couldn’t believe it. He didn’t want to believe it either.
“Ms. Stewart has provided evidence.” The officer lifted a lab report for everyone to see. Nelly had arranged for someone to fetch it from her house while she was giving her statement.
She turned to Brody. Honestly, she hadn’t planned on exposing Sheila this soon. But things had already blown up today, so she couldn’t hold back her cards anymore. Now she just wanted to see how far Brody would actually go for Sheila’s sake.
“After Carrie had her allergic reaction, I had someone run tests to find out what caused it. Turns out, the allergen was in Sheila’s perfume.”
“That’s just a coincidence! How can you blame me for that?” Sheila blurted out, not even letting Nelly finish.
Nelly let out a cold laugh. “A coincidence, huh? Maybe once. But every time something happens to Carrie, you’re always involved. Are we supposed to believe it’s just a coincidence every single time?”
She glanced at Brody, who didn’t say a word.
“Do you remember Selina? You should know how close she is to Sheila. The man who kidnapped Carrie last time was Selina’s biological father. They barely even talk to each other.”
“Don’t worry. This is the police station. As long as you tell the truth, the police will handle everything fairly. You’ll be cleared,” Nelly said, her words gentle but with an edge that made Selina’s knees weak.
“Selina!” Sheila called out, her voice tight. “Don’t say anything that isn’t true. Don’t let anyone put words in your mouth.”
“Ms. Olson, please don’t speak. This way,” an officer said, stepping between them. Selina was quickly led off to another room for questioning, separated from Sheila.
Sheila had never been in this much trouble before. The fear hit her all at once and tears started rolling down her face. She turned to Brody, desperate. “Brody, I didn’t do anything. You can’t let Nelly treat me like this...”
