Nelly was all caught up in the excitement of the exhibition, but the moment Nancy mentioned what happened in the restroom, her mood crashed.
Rudy was already gone, led away by Jonah’s people.
Felix’s crew had been watching Britney, which led them right to Rudy. They’d been trailing him for a while, and none of them expected Rudy to show up again and look for Nancy.
Nelly glanced over to the exit downstairs and spotted Jonah. Ever since they’d come back from France, he’d been keeping his distance, almost like he was avoiding her on purpose.
She hesitated for a second, then grabbed her coat and headed down.
At that exact moment, the auction was reaching its peak. Someone on the second floor made a huge bid, and the spotlight swept across the room, landing right on Nelly for a moment.
Sheila noticed her immediately, her eyes catching on Nelly’s figure.
Without thinking, Sheila stood up.
Tina saw her too this time. “Sheila, look over there. Doesn’t that woman remind you of Nelly?” She tugged on Sheila’s sleeve, pointing in the direction the woman was leaving.
But Tina couldn’t wrap her head around it. Nelly, here? Did she really belong in a place like this?
Sheila’s heart skipped a beat.
The woman was wearing a simple black velvet dress that made her skin glow. She wore a pair of plain pearl earrings that beamed under the lights.
Everything about her screamed elegance, the kind that felt out of reach.
She looked exactly like Ms. Watson, who Sheila and Brody had seen at the last art auction…
But that couldn’t be real, could it?
The idea flashed through Sheila’s mind so quickly, she nearly laughed at herself. There was no way Nelly was a Watson heiress. She must have just gotten close to someone from that family. Nicholas would have told her if it’s really somehting like that.
