When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 390

“What are you doing here?”

Nelly blinked in surprise, but then she spotted Sheila right behind Tina. Sheila was already out of the police station? Did Brody spend a fortune to bail her out again? He was willing to let the woman who hurt their daughter go free. His love really knew no limits.

But why were the two of them here? Nelly remembered that this event had a strict guest list and required a certain level of wealth and status. Even Garland Inc. probably wouldn’t have made the cut.

She didn’t have time to think it over before Tina’s cold laugh interrupted her thoughts. “Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that? Nelly, what are you even doing here?”

“Me?” Nelly let out a soft laugh. “I’m obviously here for the event.”

Her gaze lingered on the two women for a moment. Sheila wore a simple white dress with tiny crystals, perfectly elegant. Tina, meanwhile, looked like she’d just discovered money and wanted the world to know. Her outfit was so flashy and loud, it clashed with everything around her.

“For the event?” Tina scoffed, then burst out laughing. “You? You think you belong at something like this?”

Nelly took a steadying breath. She had no words for this.

She glanced at Sheila, who was watching her with wide, innocent eyes, like she was waiting to see what would happen next. Nelly already knew Sheila’s real personality, though. She curled her lip in a cold, unimpressed smile.

She really didn’t want to get into it here. Letting herself get dragged into their drama would only lower her own standards. Besides, her business was none of theirs.

Nelly turned to leave, but Tina wasn’t going to let her off that easily. She stepped forward, grabbing Nelly’s arm hard.

“Hold on! You think I don’t know your game? You’re only here because your sugar daddy brought you, right? Where is he?”

Nelly pulled her arm free, her expression openly disgusted. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. I actually have things to do, so if you want to make a scene, find somewhere else.”
