Tina turned to her bodyguards, her voice calm but laced with a warning. She wasn’t just telling them to kick Nelly out, she wanted them to make sure Nelly learned her lesson. For Tina, this was about more than just removing someone who annoyed her. She wanted payback.
Sheila stepped in, pretending to play peacemaker. “Ms. Stewart, why not let this go? You haven’t exactly been a saint yourself. We’re already here, let’s not make things even more awkward.”
“You wanna have me thrown out?” Nelly couldn’t help but laugh at the idea.
She barely finished before the bodyguards actually stepped forward, reaching for her arms.
“Do you even know who I am? You really think you can touch me?” Nelly’s voice rang out, making everyone freeze for a second. It was true, this was a room full of people with money and power. The bodyguards were fine protecting Tina and Sheila, but putting their hands on someone like Nelly was a whole different thing.
Nelly hadn’t come alone. She was with Nancy tonight, and her own security team was waiting just outside.
Tina didn’t care. She gave the guards a cold look. “Don’t worry about anything. If something goes wrong, I’ll take the blame. She’s a nobody, just clinging to a man she’s sleeping with. And even her benefactor is nothing compared to Mr. Watson.”
The bodyguards exchanged glances. After a moment, one of them gave Nelly a polite but firm gesture toward the exit.
Nelly rolled her eyes. “So you really don’t know who I am. But you must know who you’re actually here to protect, right?”
Surely, the organizers didn’t bring them here for Tina and Sheila.
She knew there were only a handful of people who could command that kind of respect at an event like this. Mr. Watson… Michael, Felix, Nicholas. None of them would ever be caught dead with Sheila. For a moment, even Nelly wasn’t sure if Tina was bluffing.
“We’re here to serve Mr. Watson,” the lead bodyguard said, voice low but respectful, even if he clearly didn’t think much of Nelly. “Please, don’t make this any harder. Let’s step outside.”
Nelly wasn’t having it. “If you won’t tell me, I’ll just take a guess.” Her eyes sparkled with mischief as she started listing names. “Michael?”
“No.”
Nelly’s next words were icy. “Let go of me.” Something in her tone made the guards hesitate again. No one wanted to be on the wrong side of someone like her.
“If you treat me like this, you’ll be putting Nicholas in a tough spot. I’m sure none of you want to lose your jobs over this.”
That made them pause.
Nelly decided she’d had enough. She laid it all out, her voice clear and steady. “I’m the Watson family’s daughter. Nicholas is my uncle. You might want to think twice before you push me out that door. If you do, things won’t end well for you.”
She wasn’t being dramatic. She was giving them a chance.
“Ms. Watson?” one of the guards murmured, glancing at the others. They’d all heard that the Watson family’s heiress was on the guest list tonight. Now, it looked like she was standing right in front of them.
