What did the rest of the Watson family matter in front of Nicholas, anyway? They were just a bunch of nobodies, showing off because of their last name. Besides, she’d seen that man before. He looked young, probably just some extended family at best.
And honestly, Nelly’s relationship with him wasn’t exactly proper. If things got ugly, she’d have nothing to stand on. Nobody would risk their reputation to take her side, not even for appearance’s sake.
“So, you two have your own sugar daddy now?”
Tina’s meaning was obvious, and Nelly caught it right away.
“Who is it?”
Nelly wasn’t bothered by Tina’s jabs. She was much more curious about who was backing them from the Watson family. Who had the pull to get the event staff to give her a hard time?
“It’s…”
“Mrs. Garland.”
Sheila jumped in before Tina could spill anything more. Tina had a habit of running her mouth when she got excited, but Sheila was always more careful. She wasn’t about to reveal Nicholas before she knew what cards Nelly was holding.
“We’re all having a good time today. Let’s not make things awkward for Ms. Stewart,” Sheila said, her voice soft and gentle. She kept up her usual sweet façade, looping her arm through Tina’s and even giving Nelly a meaningful look.
“Ms. Stewart, you can’t really blame Mrs. Garland for being upset. After all… you haven’t even divorced Brody yet. No matter who you came with today, it’s better to just let things go. If you offer a quick apology, we can all avoid a scene. Isn’t that better for everyone?”
Tina couldn’t hold it in anymore. “Nelly, you’re unbelievable. You really think Sheila would stoop to your level? Mr. Watson appreciates Sheila for her talent, not because of anything shady!”
“Mr. Watson? Which one are you talking about? Maybe I know him,” Nelly replied, tilting her head, voice as soft as ever.
Her calm attitude only made Tina and Sheila angry. Tina saw Sheila shaking her head, silently warning her to stop, but Tina just couldn’t let it go. “Who do you think you are? As if you know everyone in the Watson family. You’re just making stuff up!”
“I don’t know everyone in the Watson family. I’m sure I don’t know anyone who doesn’t matter,” Nelly said, pursing her lips.
Tina threw her hands up, her face turning red with anger. “This is ridiculous! I don’t want to see her anymore. You there, get her out of here!”
