When My Ex's Worst Enemy Became My Sanctuary novel Chapter 358

Mamie honestly couldn’t remember when she’d fallen asleep last night. It was like drifting out on open water, going up and down with the waves. Every part of her body felt completely sore.

Scott was thirty-four now. Since they’d broken up, he’d been single for seven years. Seven years holding everything inside. Last night, all that pent-up emotion finally spilled over.

“Are you awake?”

A cool, gentle kiss landed on her eyelid.

Mamie couldn’t help herself, so she rolled her eyes right at him. She turned over and hid her face in the blankets.

“No, I’m not. Leave me alone, I want to sleep.”

Her voice was playful and pouty, just like she used to be when they first started dating.

Scott’s eyes were soft and full of warmth. “Okay, I’ll be quiet. If you get hungry, order room service. I’m going to pick up Garth.”

If he didn’t go soon, their son would start getting grumpy.

Mamie had wanted to go with him to the airport to get their boy, but there was just no way she could move.

As soon as Scott reached the arrivals area, he was greeted by a small, handsome but very grumpy face.

“Dad, how could you lie to me? That’s so mean! You’re just a big liar!”

Scott raised his eyebrows. “Garth, does that mean you don’t want a little sister anymore?”

Garth was still sulking but couldn’t work out why leaving him behind had anything to do with having a sister. He was barely six. There was a lot he didn’t get.

“I want a sister… but you shouldn’t just leave me by myself.”

He imagined that, once his sister was born, his dad would completely forget about him. The thought made his eyes get all watery.

“Dad, will you stop loving me if we get a little sister?”

Scott couldn’t help laughing. “Oh, come on. Don’t be so dramatic. Let’s go pick up your mom for lunch.”

It never took long for the two of them to make up.

Later that afternoon, Scott hired a photographer to follow them around for a bit, just to snap some vacation photos.

Garth even asked the photographer to film a vlog for them. He was thrilled. “Dad, can I post this online?”

“My face is off limits. Anything else is fine.”

After all, Scott had some public image to keep up.

Garth pouted. “I don’t care about posting you. It’s all about mom and me.”

Mamie smiled and sat with her son to figure out how to edit the video. In that moment, happiness felt so real. Scott leaned back nearby, smiling, and Garth wrapped himself around her, filling the room with laughter. Mamie had never felt more content. Maybe having a little sister in the house wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Georgia quit filming the reality show after her messy divorce started getting serious.

Since she wasn’t seeing the other moms on the program anymore, Dorothea breezed through her last two months on the show, totally happy. She didn’t care about the gossip flying around online, or the people rooting for her to fail, or even the groups obsessed with her relationship. None of it mattered. She just wanted her baby to be healthy and safe.

Latham arranged all the paperwork she needed.

“We’re going for your checkup in Astoria tomorrow,” he said.

Dorothea just covered her face, already knowing where this was going. He clearly wanted to find out if they were having a boy or a girl.
